Marinda and Le-Roux’s Wedding… and the Grand Prix Circuit…
Not often that we find that special couple that is willing to try something totally off beat and different. Marinda and Le Roux trusted us completely and when we suggested the East London Grand Prix Circuit as the location for their wedding photos the idea was met with great enthusiasm and excitement! Not only did the GP Circuit provide us with some unique photo opportunities, but the surrounding veldt during the sunset hour allowed for some delirious shooting on our side as we just could not get enough of the golden light of sunset!

Tandile and Zolani’s Wedding – Whittlesea – Eastern Cape
Upon return from our Christmas break around Jeffreys Bay and St Francis Bay, we found ourselves early the next morning on an narrow gravel road, about 300km from Port Elizabeth and 200 km from East London, near a small town called Whittlesea. Contemplating the unique surroundings and how we will capture breathtaking wedding photos, we followed the winding road to the house with the white flag. The house where we will meet the bride…
This wedding was a huge affair, with around 800 guests and as we pulled into the yard, food was being prepared in enormous 3 legged pots over open fires. The elders were keeping a watching eye in the shade of the veranda, while the sun started to beat down mercilessly upon the rugged hills (and our dark uniforms!). Knowing this lovely province, we knew that the humid heat only meant one thing – heavy rain.
Tandile’s wedding dress was an exquisite imported creation, and as usual we could not resist capturing the fine lace detail and fine beadwork on her dress. Despite the heat outside and myself resorting to a towel to keep dry, our bride looked fresh and calm all day. The church was packed with barely space for a mouse to move, but we managed to position ourselves perfectly to capture the moments of the ceremony – one of the benefits of being a team… After the sermon and the family photos, we captured some portraiture photos at an old rock kraal and ruins. Then the skies opened up, hail, water and more water fell from the skies. Our bride and groom was trapped in their car until the rain subsided and the reception could continue.

Karlien and Hennie’s rainy wedding day at Inkwenkezi Private Game Reserve
The most visited website on my PC the week before Karlien and Hennie’s wedding day at Inkwenkwezi, was the South African Weather Service’s website. This sparked off some serious planning on our side in order to capture their photos during the wettest weather we’ve experienced for a long time. Out came the umbrellas and the gumboots and prayed that the lovely couple was daring enough to brave the cold and the wet! …We were not disappointed! Together they braved the sheets of rain as the sky opened a blessing upon their marriage!

Tanya and Shaheed at the Blue Lagoon
We’re in the business of capturing and showing true love with our images. Tanya and Shaheed once again made our work a breeze. Challenging us was the fact that the portrait photos had to be taken after sunset on the beach! After the sun kissed us goodbye with it’s last rays on the horizon, high ISO, large apertures and slow shutter speeds were at the order of the day. We had lots of fun at this beautiful couple’s wedding, and the honesty of their emotions captured our imagination.

Why wedding photography?
What is it about Wedding Photography in general that makes us want to do it again and again and again? I am pondering this question after reading another photographer’s advert, which states that the most satisfying part of being a wedding photographer to him/her is when the couple view their album for the first time and have joy on their faces. I guess that for every professional person the satisfaction of doing a job well ranks very high, but WHY do WE do it?
Trashing the Dress at Mpekweni
Trash the Dress? Now why would anybody want to trash a wedding dress you might think? It sounds like something that a wife might do after having a huge fight with her husband, not something you would imagine a just married couple enjoy doing!?
Hats off to brave Carmen and Le-Royé that not only had the courage to destroy (maybe they could save it) their wedding attire, but also brave some fairly cold water in the process! (The week before the wedding the Eastern Cape experienced some bitterly cold weather, and it surely had it’s effect on the water temperature).
The love and emotion the couple shared and displayed on their wedding day continued the day after at Mpekweni Beach Resort and thus allowed us to capture some amazing pics.
…And there is a pic in the shower right at the end!!!
The Jack Russel pup decided that Carmen looks much more friendly than it’s owners and joined the bride on the sand dune.
