Kate and Vernon’s blog post will be the first article posted in our new format. We’ve decided to add a little more of a personal touch to our blog posts by sharing the love story of the couples wedding’s we get the opportunity to photograph.
Vernon is originally from East London but Katie is a New Zealand Girl. So you might be wondering how the 2 of them ended up meeting?
Vernon decided, like so many young people today, to travel to London after he matriculated in search of a job, but he ended up finding a lot more that what he had bargained for – true love, because as faith had it, Katie was in London then too.
Not long after he arrived in London, he phoned his mom early one morning and told her: “Mom, I have a girl and she’s just like you”! Swoon, how sweet is that!
Shortly after meeting Katie, Vernon returned to South Africa, but his heart remained abroad, and 2 months later he left all the familiar things behind and flew to New Zealand to be with the one he loves – Katie! (Remember – all his afrikaans friends were in London and he knew no one except Katie in New Zealand)
Fast forward 6 years and Vernon finally got down on one knee in their newly built house…and he had a very unique way of popping the question. Vernon went out to get some Pizza’s but Katie felt that one of the boxes was a bit on the light side. First she thought that Vernon ate the whole pizza by himself but when she looked inside she saw a beautiful engagement ring!
Love truely conquers all and this beautiful love story just shows us all to what ends a man will go if he truely loves a woman!
Vernon and Katie decided to have 2 weddings, a beautiful fairytale wedding at Katie’s parents smallholding near Auckland in New Zealand and a truly South African wedding with proudly South African dishes – pap and wors, koeksisters and melktert.
Katie and Vernon’s South African wedding was held at Mpongo Private Game Reserve, a short 35 km drive from East London.
It was our first time photographing a wedding at this beautiful game reserve and we were totally blown away. Not only is Mpongo Private Game Reserve beautiful, the food excellent, has a wide variety of game to view but the staff bend over backwards to make sure that everyone is happy. We would highly recommend them to any couple looking for a Bushveld wedding venue!
For the creative shoot we all got into the Landrover and went for a game drive. It was awesome. A big Kudos to our Game Ranger (who’s name unfortunately slipped our minds) who very patiently drove us all over Mpongo’s grounds in pursuit of the perfect spot!
I would also like to thank Vernon’s mom, Hanlie, for sharing their love story with us. I really appreciate it so much.
Also a big thank you to all the staff at Mpongo Private Game Lodge for your excellent service and for making us feel so at home.
