This was our very first concept photo shoot and we are really proud of it. At the end of last year we had a desire to break away from the vintage and whimsical trend that was going around and to do something “anti-vintage” as we jokingly called it.
December we realized that we should contact young fashion designers as they were the one’s creating unique and different pieces, that was not the typical run of the mill fashion that you find everywhere. Only in March we came in contact with Kayla Human, a young fashion graduate from NMMU, and we just loved her pieces.
As soon as we saw her work we knew that we found the clothing for our “anti-vintage” shoot!!
The idea behind her creations were metamorphosis, so we brainstormed on ideas on how to show this metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly in our photo shoot. We also scouted for the right location and finally decided on the old Boet Erasmus stadium here in Port Elizabeth.
Finally on the 1st of May we were ready, set, go for the photo shoot and even our little girl Mia played model for one of the photos.
We would like to thank Kayla for allowing us to photograph her amazing creations. Also to our beautiful model, Kerryn van den Elshout, it was awesome to meet you. Thank you also to the 2 ladies behind the scene, Angelique Demont for makeup and Melanie Backlund for the beautiful hair.
This is definitely something we would love to do again so if there is any young designers out there wanting to showcase there work, please feel free to contact us!
Hope you enjoy this series of photos.
